Komodo Island


Komodo Island is located at the port in the Lesser Sunda Islands west Nusa Tenggara Sumbawa island separated by Sape straits.

In 1910 an official from the Dutch administration of Lieutenant Steyn van Broek Hens received a report from a Dutch warship fleet saw an animal resembling a dragon. Through the expedition was doing the lieutenant and then shot and killed a dragon and brought to the Zoological Museum and Botanical Garden in Bogor

Legacy of this prehistoric animal found only on Komodo and its surrounding islands, and until now was recorded in 2500 Komodo live here, but had feared that this population will shrink due to hunting of animals that become food of the Komodo

Komodo 2-3 meters long, weighing 70-100kg can achieve and its main weapon is the bite that contain bacteria that live in the mouth. Animals which belong to this group of reptiles known as the animal patient. Prey that had been bitten would be left free and rely only followed by a sharp smell. After 2-3 days usually prey would collapse because of bacteria from the bite of the Komodo. Mating period usually occurs between June to July, and in August the females begin digging nests

Not only dragons, in this island there are also many animals including rare and unique underwater attractions that are still beautiful. And of course the support from all parties is needed to preserve the islands of Komodo

In 2009 the Indonesian island of Komodo has been named as one of the world heritage, and after removing the other participants, the island of Komodo with 27 finalists from various countries around the world entered the final stages and will be announced on 11-11-11 as one of the seven wonders of the world

Komodo Island Indonesia is the only finalist categories animals and of course we support the people of Indonesia is urgently needed. With support from us then the preservation of the island will remain intact and will be the pride of Indonesia in the eyes of the world.
